Things Porteños Like (and Don't Like)

Everyone loves top 10s!

Things Porteños Like:
1. Grapefruit everything; including grapefruit soda and grapefruit Gatorade
2. Pizza and empanadas. Practically on every block
3. Mullets and rat-tails
4. Rock music, more specifically- 80s rock music
5. Fernet, this after-dinner liquor that on its own, according to wikipedia, tastes like "black licorice flavored listerine" but isn't bad when mixed with coke and, according to our friend and Garden House hostel manager Adrián, "tastes like Friday night"
6. The tango, fútbol, and Maradona (boring but mandatory inclusions)
7. Sleeping on the sidewalks during broad daylight (ok, maybe just the homeless)
8. Kioskos, they're like 2 to a block. Either supply and demand has little effect on businesses here, or people buy a ton of snacks, drinks, phone cards, and other random crap
9. Surprisingly, hot dogs. and also a lot of other red meats including really good beef and sausage
10. Aladdin pants (at least the girls)

Things Porteños Don't Like:
1. Trash Cans
2. Fixing their sidewalks
3. Being on time
4. Driving in a responsible manner
5. Mufflers
6. Going to bed before...well seemingly ever
7. Speaking slowly and enunciating clearly
8. Picking up after their dogs
9. Efficiency
10. Getting/appearing old. Apparently "viejo" is one of the worst insults they throw at each other. Also, Argentina is one of the biggest destinations for plastic surgery

Despite what some of this information may indicate, I assure you that Buenos Aires is truly a wonderful place

  3. Hey!!
it's a pretty good description of porteños, sadly but true!!
thanks God not all Argentinians are that way!
    some of us are different!

there is one, though, that I really like. Number 5, Fernet. It is the most common drink in Córdoba, (even more than beer I would say) and you really get used to that "listerine" flavour.

You should include mate. Just spend 1 hour in a park and you will see that almost everyone is drinking it.

    ok, see you on Thursday.
try to understand my blog in Spanish, as I read yours in english.

    enjoy!!

ps. sorry I erased the other comment, but it had some awful spelling mistakes (and I'm sure this one too haha)
